Transform Your Image: Key Wardrobe Tips for Stunning Headshots

Make an impression like a celebrity! No, really.

In today’s business world, first impressions are often made through a screen before we even meet someone. Your online brand and profile can be a powerful tool in conveying how much of a vibrant go getter you are.

Not only will the right wardrobe add some flare to your portrait session, it gives you the confidence boost you need before you step onto set. Or at least, it gives me the confidence boost I need!!

  1. Solid colours are almost always safe.

Lots of patterns can be distracting. If you are feeling nervous about what to wear, you can try stick to solid colours - bonus points if they fit the brand palette!

This helps create a cohesive look for the company website, promotional materials and keeps you ON BRAND.

In 2024, I had the opportunity to photograph Macklemore performing. You can see the mister is very clean in solid colours that looked great in the photo.

2. Consider your brand.

I am giving out bonus points to all members wearing colours that fit with your brand palette.

This helps create a cohesive look for the company website, promotional materials and keeps you ON BRAND. In 2024, I also got the chance to photograph PINK as she performed at a stadium in GC. As you can see in the photograph, she is confirming her brand association with her colour palette.

3. Bright Colours and Whites

If you ChatGPT “What to wear to a photoshoot” - it will tell you to AVOID bright colours and whites to a corporate photoshoot and stick to navy, black, grey… and well bleughhhh.

I say, scrap this! If you have a bright personality, embrace the bold colours!!!! Yes, neutrals will always be safe territory, and it is important to consider what you would like to use the photos for. I love how a bright colour can reveal and put forward who you really are.

4. BEWARE of the background.

White clothes on a white studio backdrop can be tricky. If you want to wear white to your studio day, I would recommend bringing a blazer to break up the colours. We don’t need a repeat of the green on green situation below!

5. Let’s Talk FIT

When you come into the studio, you are no longer ‘Cleo from Accounts’. You are the talent. You are the model.

Blazers are often a great bet because they create a beautiful silhouette for photographs - especially around the shoulders and waist.

6. Accessories + Grooming

A great way to accessorize on the day is by using:

  • Minimalist earrings

  • A classic watch

  • A fresh shave for men or a well-groomed beard

  • For women, it’s really up to you! Simple and natural makeup is always elegant and timeless.
